Overview
I transformed a firsthand account into an interactive AR narrative experience by working with a nonprofit organization. This immersive storytelling approach was designed to deepen empathy and engagement during the bystander intervention workshop.
context
This project was created in collaboration with the Hays-Caldwell Women's Center (HCWC), a local non-profit based in Hays and Caldwell Counties that provides free, confidential services to victims of family violence, dating violence, sexual assault, and child abuse. Part of their work focuses specifically on youth, making teen awareness and education a core part of their mission.
The experience was built around a real scenario contributed by a teen participant, grounding the narrative in an authentic, first-person perspective.
Source prompt: "You and your friends get dressed up and go out on a Friday night. While all of you are walking to a restaurant, a stranger calls out to your friend saying 'You're too hot to go home alone tonight.'"
Goal
The Hays-Caldwell Women’s Center’s (HCWC) wanted an engaging workshop with the San Marcos Youth Task Force. Teenagers will learn about bystander intervention through interactive stories that mix digital and real-world activities. Using augmented reality (AR) and Halloween theme, young players will explore different situations, make choices, and talk about what it means to step in and help others safely.
Constraints
The content needed to remain age-appropriate and non-threatening for a teenage audience, and the experience had to balance emotional realism with a sense of safety. Educational without being traumatizing.
Process

I drafted up a simple storyline simulating how it would be seen in AR. Having the player is looking around the world in place of the witch's friend.

Feedback
Original assets didn't align with client's vision, they wanted a cuter version would align more with their workshop. I swapped out the 3D models that was less intimating.
